Outfit Of The Day: Shift Into The Weekend

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

You guys, I ALMOST attempted to pull of the black knee high compression socks with this outfit. Bold move, I know. I tried to wear them with a coral sandal wedge and to be honest it almost worked, but the wedges felt wayyyy too tight and small. So I scratched it and went with my sandals. But to be honest, my feet felt pretty good yesterday in those hideous socks.

This weekend should be fun. Dear friends of ours have been living in Israel for the last year and a half and they have finally returned home! They just arrived this week and we can’t wait to see them this weekend before they head to the Bay Area.

Additionally, we are having another baby shower on Sunday, this time here in L.A. and can’t wait to party with our friends and celebrate this baby!

Outfit Of The Day: Maxi-mum Comfort

If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen that my feet were terribly swollen yesterday. Swelling seems to be the one pregnancy symptom I was unable to escape. Although luckily it didn’t really show up too bad until this last trimester.

I recently purchased some compression socks at Bed Bath & Beyond. They are anything but cute. They are black and thick and knee high. So I have been wearing them when I come home from work and sleeping in them. Unfortunately, I washed them and they were line drying so I couldn’t wear them Tuesday night. I think this had something to do with the state of my feet on Wednesday. Not to mention the heat (it’s already 80 degrees here in Los Angeles) and sitting at a desk all day doesn’t help.

But long story short, they feel much better today after resting them last night and wearing my compression socks. Also, as a little secret, I’m still wearing them today. My dress is floor length and black so you cant see them! I think I might try to source out a pair that are more like pantyhose that I can still wear without compromising fashion or having heat stroke. Wish me luck!

Before becoming pregnant I wasn’t really one for maxi dresses/skirts. I’m not really sure what my aversion was. I only owned one, it’s plain black. I think maybe for the most part they just didn’t seem my style. No good answer. But let me just tell you that they are a pregnant ladies best friend & my collection of affordable maxi’s has grown.

Especially in these last few weeks (only 6 weeks left!) when things begin to get uncomfortable and your options for what still fits start to get smaller and smaller, they really are a blessing. They are loose and comfy and still cute. So get into it because you will likely see more of them in my future.

Outfit Of The Day: Sheer Polka Dot

I bought this dress a while back, but I hadn’t worn it just yet. It was a non-maternity item from Old Navy that I found on sale. It works perfect with a baby belly and to be honest I’m not sure it would be all that flattering on someone who wasn’t pregnant. But maybe just because I’m short, I imagine it being way too over-sized and long. The one I am wearing is a size small!!

Although the length on this dress is good and allows for a big belly, the under layer is rather short so I am wearing a pair of maternity shorts underneath just for a little extra coverage. Nothing long enough to disturb the line of the dress, but enough that if I need to bend over….I can, haha.

As the weeks roll by it seems that comfort is key as of lately.  Even most of my maternity jeans sound unappealingly tight not to mention that the waist band is always folding over under my big belly.  Luckily, with warmer weather approaching I can probably get by on a lot of dresses and such. I’ll try to step up my game a bit next week. haha

I like to call this the “Native Cankle” look due to the native print on my skirt and my newly acquired cankles!

We were in the Bay Area for an extended weekend celebrating the baby with a little shower. It was so visit my parents and see all our friends! My parents rule and they totally busted their butts to make an awesome shower. My mom planned and scheduled and decorated each detail and my dad slaved away cooking tons of yummy food (which was all devoured, even though he made extra!). We really loved our visit, even if it was short. We will be back in the bay in August for our close friends wedding and hopefully we will stay for a bit longer then (since we will be on maternity leave). We are already looking forward to it.

But for today I’m back at work and back to regularly scheduled outfit posts:

Outfit Of The Day: Crazy Pants Returns

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

Apparently I’m just gonna be wild all week. First it was pregnant profanities and now its wild leggings. I have been known to rock a wild legging (exhibit A) but a small part of me wondered if I was channeling Kim Kardashian’s couch dress incident in these pants! HaHa.

But like any pregnant lady, I love a good stretch pant. Not to mention these ones were $5.99 at Ross. And wild as they may be, I also think they are fun and Spring-y.

Floral Leggings: Ross ($5.99)

Shoes: Sperry Top Siders (via TJ Maxx) $29.
I was getting pretty upset with the fact that none of my shoes fit anymore and I popped into TJ Maxx to see what kind of cheap temporary options I could find. I had actually tried to check out a pair of Vans like this over the weekend. But when I asked to try them on I requested my pre-pregnancy size and there was no way these feet were fitting in there so I left defeated. Pre-pregnancy I usually wore like a 6.5 or 7…occasionally a 7.5. When I tried these on at TJ Maxx the toe might have fit for a size 7.5 but they felt tight and uncomfortable, so I ended up purchasing a size 8. Once I have the baby and the swelling goes down they will be too big for me, but right now they are just the right amount of roomy.

I thought this sweatshirt was hilarious and awesome. I didn’t think anything of the fact that I am pregnant and about to be a mom. When I showed John he was kinda of like “you cant wear that”. Not in a bossy way, but in a “I’m pretty sure that’s frowned upon” way. It had never occurred to me and I thought, “aww man, do I look like a dirt bag?” But this morning when I decided to wear it he said I looked cute. Plus, my hair covers most of it. It is repeated on the backside but its black ink on a black sweatshirt so it’s much more subtle.

The sweatshirt is from a web store called….SheInside. Yeah. Weirdest name ever. As you can imagine, not only based on copywright infringement but also on that name, it is not an American company. I was hesitant to buy from the site initially but after finding another blogger who had purchased from them before and seeing that they had free international shipping I decided to go for it.

Outfit:

Sweatshirt: She Inside ($28) – apparently no longer available. But here is a similar Comme des Garcons parody

Hat: Vans ($30) – John got this for me while we were out shopping on Mother’s Day weekend. He likes me in hats, but I don’t wear them all too often. I figure, if you are going to have a baseball hat, and you are not at a baseball game, this one is pretty fun.

Shorts: American Eagle (via TJ Maxx) – non maternity shorts, just several sizes larger than my pre-maternity size so they sit lower on the hips, below the belly.

Watch: Nixon – The Kensington ($175)

Earrings: Chanel

Shoes: unbleached Converse All Stars ($45)

Outfit Of The Day: Repeat Offender

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

You guys may have seen this dress a handful of times. (Like here and here) But unlike some Hollywood starlet, I don’t have a new dress for every day of the week (nor should I). Its a little bit harder to disguise this dress as something else (compared to my Black Liz Lange dress). But I love a stripe (maybe too much) and I think this dress is fun and I still feel good in it. So I will continue to rock it as many ways as possible with slight variations and accessory changes and hopefully its not old news for you all.

PS my friend mentioned today “you wear the converse a lot lately huh?”….um yeah, they are all that fit, aside from flip flops. Blurg. Right now my biggest issue is water retention and swelling but I think my feet might also be slightly bigger (although its hard to tell when nothing fits anyway). I realllly hope they don’t change in size after the baby. It would be so sad to have to retire so many of my beloved shoes.
