Outfit Of The Day: Guns N’ Roses

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

As I was trying clothes on I initially by-passed this outfit at first, thinking it was maybe a bit much. Then John said “what happened to Guns N’ Roses?” after I started to try on another outfit. I said “Oh, you liked that one?” and he said “yeah, duh!”. So I guess it wasn’t too much after all….well, that’s debatable.

It’s hard to say because I am carrying so high but I feel like the baby MIGHT have dropped or started dropping. He seems slightly lower and I definitely feel a bit more room around my ribs etc. Maybe he’s still working on it, we’ll see hehe.

Outfit Of The Day: Pattern Me Periwinkle

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

If it looks like I can barely keep my eyes open in these photos, that’s because its true! I am utterly exhausted. This whole making a baby thing is real tiring! Especially these last few weeks!

Things are forecast to warm up a bit here this week but I’m kind of dreading it. Even though I still have warm weather clothes that fit, I feel like my legs look like tree trunks lately and I’m not really looking forward to the idea of wearing shorts or short dresses. Even if I wear my compression hose (I bought a thigh high version that I have yet to wear) I almost feel like- “what’s the point, that’s probably about as warm as wearing pants”. Meh, we will see. Maybe I will take advantage of the fact that I’m inside the office most of the day and it’s easier to get away with wearing pants as the temperature is better regulated. Speaking of being in the office- I only have to work in the office for about 2 more weeks! After Fourth of July I will be able to work from home up until the babies birth and as this pregnancy progresses I am really looking forward to it!

Outfit Of The Day: Sailor Jerry

Some of you may have the convenience of wearing your husbands Tshirts when you get to be 36 weeks pregnant. That doesn’t happen when you are 5’5″ and your husband is 6’2″- you’re an XS and hes an XL. So I had to buy my own mens Tshirt haha.

Outfit Of The Day: Gloomy Panama

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

In all honesty, we are having some serious June gloom here in Los Angeles and this Panama hat is totally un-necessary but I wanted to wear it anyway! I know I keep saying I’m done shopping, and with 4 weeks left I think I have made a valiant effort to stop buying things but last night I had an hour to kill before yoga (trouble) so I did a little browsing at TJ Maxx (duh). I got this entire outfit (minus the hat) for $36!! Yeah, that’s right, pants and a top for $36. And to be fair, if $36 makes you feel a little like a million bucks when you have cankles and cant feel your sausage fingers I say it’s totally worth it!

Outfit

White Jeans: TJ Maxx ($19) – These are stretchy and sized up several sizes from my pre-pregnancy size. They also have adorable zipper details that you cant really see under this giant belly haha.

Oversized Tank: TJ Maxx ($12)- Kind of love the shape of this tank. It reminds me a bit of Hatch Maternity, only, you know, it cost $12 instead of $120. It’s also not a maternity item and I think it will be great after the baby is born to hide a little belly. Might even add it to my hospital bag as an option for wearing home from the hospital!

Shoes: Converse ($45)

Panama Hat: J.Crew ($58)

Blazer: Target

PS still rockin’ those sexy compression hose. They are making things much better.

Outfit Of The Day: Crazy Comfy

This dress is crazy comfy. I have two dresses by Max Studio that I found at TJ Maxx. One is short and then this long maxi, they are made of the softest stretchiest cotton ever and they are heaven.

Our Nursery: Teaser

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

Now that my nesting bug finally kicked in, I have been getting things in order in the babies room. If you just started following or don’t know much about our house, its itty bitty. It’s an old beach cottage that is somewhere under 600 sq ft (aprox 520 sq ft). It’s technically a two bedroom but you can imagine with 520 sq. ft. those bedrooms are pretty small, especially the second bedroom. Also, because the cottage is from the early 1900′s closet space is nearly non existent, therefor we built Mama’s closet  into the second bedroom.

You may find yourself asking: why aren’t they moving?

Well, because our house is pretty adorable. And we love living in Santa Monica (a place with sky high rents we somehow have sort of avoided). Because we love being able to walk to the beach. Because we love our massive yard and vegetable garden (we didn’t even have a fire escape in SF). Because we love that we have a little mini house, instead of an apartment. And because we love that having a small house forces us to edit and keep things as simple as possible. And because, tiny as it may be it seems like a great place for our family.

But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its challenges.

When we first found out we were pregnant we did briefly consider the idea of whether or not we should move. If we moved, it would be one more thing on our plate and we decided to rule it out early on. We are crafty and organized and figured we could make it work. Even if John sometimes feels like the walls are moving in on him (I imagine our house feels even smaller when you are 6’2″).

So I started doing some research. Looking at Manhattan moms for ideas. Women who managed to have babies while living in 300 sq. ft. apartments. And deciding what we would actually need and what we wouldn’t. Because if you ask me, Americans tend to buy waaay more than they need, especialllllly when it comes to babies. Those families that have “playrooms” full of plastic crap toys in what used to be their living room make me cringe. And I started to feel like it was definitely possible and I kind of liked the challenge.

Since I am finally getting things in order in there and I’m hoping I can wrap it up shortly and photograph it before the baby arrives, I thought it would be fun to share a little teaser in the meantime.  So here is a little style board that will give you an idea of what we are cooking up!

nursery

I re-used some things from elsewhere in the house or from our storage unit and added in a few other things on the cheap.

We knew we wanted the Bloom Alma Mini Crib because of its size. When a co-worker of John’s told us she had one and would sell it to us for $100 (including the organic mattress and sheets) we jumped at the chance. Initially I had wanted the white one because I thought it would feel calm and minimal in a tiny space. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the orange color at first. But at that price, I figured I would make it work. In the end I actually ended up loving it and I think it set the tone for the whole room!

My mother gifted me her original Knoll butterfly chair and a new leather sling seat for it. I knew I loved the chair but I had no idea where I was going to use it in our small house. It felt like a shame to put it outside, although, there literally was nowhere else to put it. Initially I thought if the nursery was going to have a chair it needed to be a rocker. But one day John sat me down in the Butterfly chair and put the headphones on me (playing Yo Yo Ma) trying to get his pregnant wife to just relax for a bit and I actually fell asleep in the chair! I figured if I could manage to fall asleep in it then I could nurse in it.

I love the mix of textures in the babies room and I love that its just the right balance of soft enough for baby but sophisticated enough that it blends with the rest of the house. Can’t wait to finish it up and share the real deal with you!!!

Outfit Of The Day: Casual Monday & Real Talk

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

It’s Monday again, and I tend to have a hard time getting it together come Monday morning haha. So I’m pretty casual today. This morning John said “That shirts getting kinda small mama” I laughed but the truth is everything is getting kind of small at this point. With only about 4 weeks left, I’m making due with what I can and I will likely be wearing a lot of maxi’s soon.

On a similar topic, I thought maybe I should mention something about pregnancy weight gain.

I have had a lot of people tell me that I look great and that I am “lucky because I didn’t gain too much weight”. The truth is, I did gain a lot of weight. I still have one month of pregnancy left and I have already gained a little over 40 lbs.

I was a tiny lady pre-pregnancy so it may not be as obvious to others that I have gained so much, but it’s the truth. I’m not really sure why I’m sharing that info, but I guess I just felt like it would be fair to tell the truth about that. We have never owned a scale, and my doctor check ups have always been my only way of knowing just how much I have gained. I’ve never been too concerned with a number so long as I felt good and healthy, which is why we don’t have a scale. I’ve tried to keep the same mentality during the pregnancy, but admittedly, its hard to see the numbers on the scale at each check in growing, regardless of what weight you started at.

Like most women I felt guilty and nervous about the weight gain. The advisable weight gain is 25-30 lbs and I didn’t think it would be so hard to fall in that category.  We eat healthy (we are even pescotarian),  I am fairly active (walking the dog 30-45 mins a day most days, taking yoga once a week etc) and  yet somehow the numbers keep creeping.

Our doctor has had a really great attitude the whole pregnancy and is always calm and re-assuring. When I joked that I had some “rapid weight gain” since my last appointment, she said “Noooooo, you’re fine. Given your pre-pregnancy weight, its totally fine.”

So, trust your bodies. Know that everyone carries different. Know that everyone has the same concerns. And as long as you are being healthy and making smart choices your body is going to do what it needs to do to make a baby. It’s a crazy time and you just gotta roll with the punches.

Mexico Babymoon: The Film

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

Back in April we went on our Babymoonto to Sayulita Mexico. It was totally amazing. We made a silly films to document our trip (because we make films to document everything) and we finally got it up on the interwebs, so I thought I would share it with you!

The film also might reveal our baby name! But you’ll have to watch and find out.

PS the beginning of the song John chose totally makes me chuckle. When he was working on the film I said “what are you editing? a 70′s porn?”

Outfit Of The Day: Rosie The Riveter Meets Popeye

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

I was pretty amazed to find that these pants still fit comfortably. I seem to be outgrowing items every week and the window of wearable clothes is becoming smaller and smaller. If you remember, these pants are not a maternity item and given that most of my maternity pants don’t even fit comfortably anymore I thought for sure these were out. But I humored myself and attempted to put them on only to find they fit just fine with plenty of room and stretch! Huzzah!

I wanted to pair them with a Fred Perry polo and go for a bit of an Oi look, but I was worried I was stretching out my Fred Perry and I might end up ruining it, never to be worn post belly again. So I chose to go with a simple white tee, because lets be honest, these pants are kinda crazy, you gotta keep things simple.

The headscarf with the chambray work shirt made me feel a bit like Rosie the Riveter, but then I also apparently channeled Popeye when the camera came out!

Oh and guess?! My pantyhose version of my compression hose showed up! It’s kinda weird how excited I was about this haha. I bought a thigh high version for skirts and shorts and a knee high version for with pants. See how I’m wearing them and you can hardly tell? At least a lot less noticeable than the black ones so, Success! These bad boys ought to help make the next few weeks bearable. If you need a pair- this is where I got them.

Outfit Of The Day: Birthday Style

Gaelyn • Leave a Comment

Welp, it’s my birthday! Cankles aside, I’d say things aren’t all too shabby for 31 and super pregnant.

John spoiled me this morning by making a breakfast that included fresh squeezed orange juice, decaf coffee and a veggie egg scramble. Then he called and booked me a prenatal massage for Sunday before sending me off to work with a hot and fresh baked mini quiche. Tonight we are having dinner at Gjelina in Venice and indulging in what few date nights we might have left for a while.

Pretty good little birthday so far. Maternity Street Style via MyCornerView Maternity Street Style via MyCornerViewMaternity Street Style via MyCornerViewMaternity Street Style via MyCornerViewMaternity Street Style via MyCornerViewMaternity Street Style via MyCornerView
