It’s Monday again, and I tend to have a hard time getting it together come Monday morning haha. So I’m pretty casual today. This morning John said “That shirts getting kinda small mama” I laughed but the truth is everything is getting kind of small at this point. With only about 4 weeks left, I’m making due with what I can and I will likely be wearing a lot of maxi’s soon.
On a similar topic, I thought maybe I should mention something about pregnancy weight gain.
I have had a lot of people tell me that I look great and that I am “lucky because I didn’t gain too much weight”. The truth is, I did gain a lot of weight. I still have one month of pregnancy left and I have already gained a little over 40 lbs.
I was a tiny lady pre-pregnancy so it may not be as obvious to others that I have gained so much, but it’s the truth. I’m not really sure why I’m sharing that info, but I guess I just felt like it would be fair to tell the truth about that. We have never owned a scale, and my doctor check ups have always been my only way of knowing just how much I have gained. I’ve never been too concerned with a number so long as I felt good and healthy, which is why we don’t have a scale. I’ve tried to keep the same mentality during the pregnancy, but admittedly, its hard to see the numbers on the scale at each check in growing, regardless of what weight you started at.
Like most women I felt guilty and nervous about the weight gain. The advisable weight gain is 25-30 lbs and I didn’t think it would be so hard to fall in that category. We eat healthy (we are even pescotarian), I am fairly active (walking the dog 30-45 mins a day most days, taking yoga once a week etc) and yet somehow the numbers keep creeping.
Our doctor has had a really great attitude the whole pregnancy and is always calm and re-assuring. When I joked that I had some “rapid weight gain” since my last appointment, she said “Noooooo, you’re fine. Given your pre-pregnancy weight, its totally fine.”
So, trust your bodies. Know that everyone carries different. Know that everyone has the same concerns. And as long as you are being healthy and making smart choices your body is going to do what it needs to do to make a baby. It’s a crazy time and you just gotta roll with the punches.
