As much as I didn’t want to be one of those people that was like “okay, I’m over it”, last night when I was trying to figure out what to wear I was kind of “over it”. It’s sad – I don’t want to have that bad attitude. But I haven’t felt my fingertips in weeks (pregnancy carpal tunnel), I hate the way my legs look, shooting pains in my forearms are keeping me up at night, even when I sleep with a wrist brace (again, pregnancy carpal tunnel), and I’m sort of sick of wearing compression hose around the clock. But this morning when I was rubbing lotion on my bare belly I actually felt beautiful and grateful for all the amazing things my body is capable of. I know that in just a few weeks the feeling in my fingers will return but there is a possibility this belly will not (only time will tell). So, I started today a-new and really tried to cherish my body. I think I am finding it particularly challenging because I have never had body issues (very thankfully) and it really can play mind games on you. So here is to starting over and trying not to beat yourself up. To cherishing your body, focusing less on your “Shrek” feet and swollen legs and more on the awesomeness that is childbirth. It’s amazing what we are capable of and I know that I am strong enough and capable enough to put up with a little discomfort a little bit longer.
Originally, I didn’t have the belt on this morning and John said something to the effect of “really covering it all up there, maternity style huh?” Which may have had something to do with my bad attitude (“whatever, it fits, it works”) But I added the belt to give it more shape and it made me feel better. It goes to show that taking an effort in your appearance at all stages of pregnancy can greatly effect not only how you look but also how you feel.
